A long-time favored day trip for Teessiders, the seaside town has many attractions, quirks and foibles among its bustling streets and gothic sights. And now, according to recent research, the North Yorkshire gem has been ranked third in a list of the country’s top getaways.
Listed for its beauty spots, green spaces, heritage and instagramability, the news will come as no surprise to locals and regular visitors. The research was conducted for the Lake District’s Hotel Daffodilit analyzed over 70 UK cities and towns to show the best spots to stay in the UK.

The Lake District towns of Keswick and Ambleside ranked number one and number two, with Bakewell in Derbyshire and Salcombe in Devon coming in at numbers four and five. ” The Yorkshire coast is the perfect place to sample freshly caught British seafood, and a trip to Whitby offers just that,” said the research.
“Whitby offers a wealth of spectacular seafood restaurants dotted around its coastline, an excellent local fish market and of course the classic Whitby fish and chips. North York Moors, Cleveland Way and the Lyke Wake Walk.Whitby is the UK’s best coastal retreat to enjoy a well-earned break.Researchers also ranked Whitby as the most Instagrammable location on their list with 1,222 206 hashtags on the social media platform.
