The Federal Government, through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Sustainable Development Goals, OSSAP-ODD recently delivered a newly built and well-equipped state-of-the-art fish oven, 339 stores to the popular food market. Oluwo fish and a state-of-the-art youth center in Epe Town, Lagos State

The youth center includes a 960-seat mini-stadium, soccer field, basketball and volleyball courts, administrative offices, changing rooms and other amenities.

The renovated Oluwo Fish Market includes 240 open stalls, 82 closed stalls, five open floors, 12 toilets and four new offices for Iya Oloja and Baba Oloja, the Tourism Office and the local government staff security post.

Both projects, facilitated by the Senator representing Lagos East, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, were commissioned by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

While unveiling the flagship projects, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said they are worthwhile and will have direct impacts on the socio-economic development of Epe Town, Lagos State and of Nigeria in general.

He noted that the market project is a trade-oriented enterprise designed to improve the livelihoods and earning capacity of the beneficiaries, while the recreational facility will positively affect people’s way of life and result in health benefits, as well as improved quality of life for community members. .

The Governor therefore called on recipients to view the projects as public resources entrusted to their care, urging them to use the facilities productively with the utmost sense of responsibility.

“This is also what our great party, the APC, stands for, bringing a better life to all our people, regardless of age, gender, religion, income or social class. Our goal is to ensure that so that no one is left behind, as we expand development around Lagos,” said Sanwo-Olu.

In her own remarks, Princess Orelope-Adefulire noted that her office, in addition to commissioned projects, has facilitated the rehabilitation of more than 10 schools and four healthcare projects in the Lagos East Senatorial District. These, she said, are crucial for social integration and inclusion.

At the renovated Oluwo Fish Market and the modern fish oven built and equipped by her office, Princess Orelope-Adefulire said, the project was proof that despite the colossal disruption to global economic development by the COVID-19 pandemic 19, the Buhari government continued to make remarkable progress. efforts to initiate and implement pro-poor and development projects throughout the country.

Speaking at the event, Senator Abiru noted that he facilitated the projects in line with his mission to improve the lives of the people of Lagos East.

The Senator said that in addition to the full rehabilitation of Oluwo Fish Market, about 1,250 women and market traders will be empowered with the sum of N50,000 each in the form of financial grants with N62.5 million. to spend on the empowerment initiative.

He added that the empowerment also included the distribution of hand planters to about 200 rural farmers, along with cash grants of N20,000 each.

A novelty football match was played on the ground of the new stadium between Tokunbo Abiru Football Club and Epe Alaro United. The match ended with a penalty shootout won by Abiru FC.

Other dignitaries who graced the well-attended commissioning included: Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, Former Deputy Governor, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, GAC Member, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Alhaji Bode Oyedele, Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu, Lagos APC President, Rev. Cornelius Ojelabi, serving Commissioners, Federal and State Legislators among others.
