New Miami restaurants: Sexy Fish, Jaffa and Mehzcla


The latest round of South Florida openings and introductions include a new physical location for Jaffa, the opening of Mehzcla at the Balfour Hotel, and the long-awaited grand opening of London import Sexy Fish.

Jaffa, the Israeli and Mediterranean restaurant at Mia Market in the Design District has opened a restaurant in Hallandale Beach. Executive Chef Yaniv Cohen’s menu is known for its kosher-style meat and dairy-free menu served alongside a range of vegan dishes. Accompany your meal with a bottle of the selection of Mediterranean and Israeli wines. Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Mehzcla opened its doors at the Balfour, a boutique hotel in the Art Deco district of Ocean Drive. A nod to the property’s Miami Beach heritage, Mehzcla combines a variety of Latin American culinary influences for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At the helm: Executive Chef Steven Acosta, a native of Miami, who brings a global perspective to the restaurant’s diverse menu. Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Richard Caring, the British businessman who owns many of London’s hottest restaurants, has opened his UK-based Sexy Fish in Brickell. As the first international venue outside of London, the restaurant was designed as an even more opulent version of its Berkeley Square sister establishment, from the huge aquarium to the mermaid sculptures and colorful glass mosaics to the octopus onyx in the men’s bathroom. Chef Bjoern Weissgerber’s menu includes signature new dishes like “Sexy Gold Fish & Crispy Caviar,” with sea bass marinated in gold flakes and finished on robata. Open daily from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
