As many as 4,088 people have been infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours in Iran, reads the statement from Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Orientation reports.
Additionally, 62 people have died from the coronavirus in the past day.
At the same time, the condition of 1,331 people remains critical.
So far, more than 53.6 million tests have been carried out in Iran for the diagnosis of coronavirus.
A total of about 154 million doses of vaccines have been used in Iran so far. A total of 64.9 million doses were used in the first stage, 58.3 million doses – in the second stage and 30.3 million doses – in the third stage.
Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. According to recent reports from Iranian officials, more than 7.51 million people have been infected and 143,449 people have already died.
Meanwhile, more than 7.24 million people have reportedly recovered from the disease. The country continues to enforce strict measures to contain the spread of the virus.
Reports say the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from the Iranian city of Qom, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man later died of the disease. The Islamic Republic announced its first coronavirus infections and deaths on February 19.
The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan – which is an international transport hub – began at a fish market in late December 2019.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11. Some sources claim that the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
