Srinagar: An entire stock of carp perished at a fish farm in Dab Malikpora village, Ganderbal district, central Kashmir, following sudden heavy rains overnight on Saturday and Sunday evening, officials said.
After being informed of the incident, a team of officials visited the site during which it emerged that the farm owner had been surprised by the vagaries of the weather, which resulted in the loss of the entire fish stock, officials told GNS.
Meanwhile, a group of fish farmers appealed to the relevant government and department to arrange insurance coverage for all private fish farms in JandK. “We humbly request the government, especially the Director of Fisheries and the Principal Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, to look into the matter in order to compensate the farm owners in the event of a repeat of such a calamity,” they urged. .
