Former Chef Huon joins Cooke in Canada

Cooke Aquaculture has appointed former Huon chief executive Philip Wiese as general manager of its aquaculture operations on Canada’s east coast.

Tasmania-based Huon Aquaculture Group Limited, Australia’s second-largest salmon farming company, was acquired by Brazilian meat giant JBS last year.

Wiese brings considerable aquaculture expertise to Cooke, having worked successfully for nearly 15 years at Huon, including as CFO responsible for financial management, information technology, human resources and operations.

Wiese is also a former director of the Tasmania Salmon Growers Association, where he led collaboration in the Tasmanian salmon industry and managed the Tasmanian salmon brand globally. He has held various senior commercial management positions in finance, insurance and trading in the manufacturing, distribution and retail sectors.

Cooke said his decision to create the position of general manager of aquaculture operations on the east coast was prompted by the company’s significant growth over the past few years.

Reporting to Glenn Cooke, Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager will oversee and direct all operations of Cooke Aquaculture’s Atlantic Canada organization.
