CLARKSVILLE, TN (NOW CLARKSVILLE) – The Liberty Park pond was circled Saturday as nearly 21o youths and their families took part in the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s annual Youth Fishing Rodeo. It was a statewide free fishing day for anyone who wanted to fish without a license, and young people 15 and under were allowed to fish at Liberty Park, fetching more than 750 pounds of catfish.
TWRA officer Montana Michelson said the number of youngsters fishing this year was double the 2021 event, when only about 105 youngsters showed up. Michelson added that the Youth Fishing Rodeo has been around for over 20 years.
Prizes were given to the boy and girl who caught the biggest fish and the most fish, and door prizes were awarded to the children throughout the day.
Michelson thanked all sponsors for their support, as well as Clarksville Parks & Recreation and the Montgomery County Bass Club for their assistance.
