Father-of-5 daughters loses year’s worth of fish stock on Eid day in Anantnag – The Dispatch

Fish died after strangers turned off water at farm: family

ANANTNAG: At a time when everyone was busy celebrating Eid-ul-fitr, tragedy struck a family in Anantnag district as they lost a fish stock of about one year old.

Abdul Majid Mir, son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir, resident of Amad Wagad area in Anantnag, lost about 10 quintals of fish because unknown people cut off the water in their farm, which resulted in the death of all the fish .

Ab Majid Mir, a father of five daughters, said everything was fine until the Fajr prayers (before dawn) and while he was at the Masjid after the prayers, he heard the voice crying outside.

“I was shocked when I found out that the ones who were crying were my daughters and their mother and once I asked them why they said someone had turned off the water to our fish farm and that all the fish on our farm were dead,” he said.

Since last August we have been farming these fish and at present there were at least 10 quintals of fish and all of them died, he said, adding that they had no other source of income and that the whole family depended on it.

Locals also said that the whole family worked day and night on the farm to earn a living, but someone did something wrong and ruined the hard work of the whole year.

They called on the government to identify those involved in the wrongdoings and take legal action against them in addition to compensating the family—(KNO)
