Cooking the streamer’s $80 fish caught live by her scheming cat

gourmetmei (opens in a new tab) aka Meilyne is a cooking streamer on Twitch, whose shows feature her preparing various meals, often with high-end ingredients. On a recent show, the dish of the day was an extremely expensive cut of fish: a tile amadai. Chef Meilyne had visited a local fish market before the stream and posted about acquiring the ingredient, before later starting the stream and beginning to cook.

The stream went normally, with the chef demonstrating three different methods for preparing tile amadai. One was pan frying, after which she set aside the cooked fish fillet and turned to play with something else near the oven.

This was the opportunity one of his cats had been waiting for.

The clip shows this cunning hunter emerging when the leader’s back is completely turned and sniffing out his potential prize a few times. The cat grabs the fish almost exactly when there is an off-screen scream that alerts the leader, who takes a final leap towards the thief. Too late. The cat was gone, and with it the magnificent tilefish amadai.

There’s one word to describe Chef Meilyn’s face in the moments that followed: gutted.

To its credit, after a brief reflection, the stream continued – with appropriate heightened caution about the presence of an intriguing moggy. It wasn’t a legal fare, but I’m sure it was delicious.
