Just Like Gardening

So this weekend one of my little mini-projects was transferring my iTunes library from my old external hard drive to my new one (750GB!) ((If you find yourself in a similar situation, do not, as I did, copy all the files by hand and then switch your default library. That won’t work, even if you do a find-and-replace in your Library.xml file after, as I discovered a year or so ago but obviously forgot. Follow the instructions here for a more harmonious experience.)) When all that was through, I finally had the space to import the 5- or 6-and-a-half GB of music that had been steadily accumulating on my desktop, and then process it—getting album art, adjusting volume, checking all the id3 tags, et cetera.

We were all thinking it, but he said it

Omphaloskeptic? Please! Who even knows what that means (without looking it up)? It’s certainly not listed in dictionary.com. I Googled it just to satisfy my curiosity, and by the way, it’s practically meaningless in the context he chose to use it in. What’s the deal with all these fucking ‘Productivity’ blogs? How have we come up with an entire caste of productivity gurus, each with their own foolproof 13 step ‘how to get things done’ system? Who, more to the point, would possibly put their faith in some idiot on the internet whose only demonstrable labor is utterly useless blog posts? These people are hardly the Buckminster Fullers of our generation; their only activity is churning out omphaloskeptic ((Zenhabits, which I had the good fortune to get linked to by Reddit, has actually reached such levels of content-free living that they have begun an extensive series of interviews with other productivity bloggers.)), entirely self-unaware (and poorly written) drivel about how they organize their socks (and, of course, about blogging). I leave out entirely the fact that GTD and its numerous brethren are, as a rule, simplistic, ineffective, and anyway ill-suited to anything but a life whose only meat is wall-to-wall trivia and minutiae.

Except Merlin. He’s cool.

THIS JUST IN.

LET ALL BE ADVISED that on Wednesday, The 9th Day of May in the 2007th Year of Our Lord, I, your humble correspondent, will be broadcast over the airwaves by means of aetheric network radio transmission.

I’ve got a podcast, like. Internet radio show. It’s part of DJ Porkcube’s new internet radio station. He’s basically putting together a series of nights by soliciting his most talented and scintillating friends to record episodes for him. You can read all about it right here. Don’t forget! Wednesday, May 9! Tell your friends!
